Family members of the killed FARC leader Alfonso Cano are waiting on confirmation from the prosecutor general’s office of Popayan, expected Friday, to be able to claim the body of the fallen guerrilla fighter.
The prosecutor general’s office has made the order that the body can be handed over once the necessary papers are in order and they have proved the familial requirements.
The body of Alfonso Cano has been kept in Bogota since Saturday, after being transferred from Cauca under maximum security.
Alfonso Cano was the supreme leader of the decades old guerrilla organization and his death marks the heaviest blow against the structure of the FARC in almost 50 years of conflict.
