FARC attacks kill 8

A minefield in eastern Colombia, and attacks on the vehicles of intelligence and judicial officials, killed at least seven members of the armed forces and one civilian on Saturday.

According to media, three soldiers died in a minefield in the Arauca department, which borders Venezuela. One soldier was injured in the incident and taken to a hospital in the department capital.

In the same department, an official from Colombia’s intelligence service DAS was killed and two injured when alleged FARC guerrillas attacked the vehicle they were driving in.

In a similar attack on a government vehicle in the south-western Cauca department, two policeman and one civilian were killed.

One policeman died when a judicial commission, consisting of prosecution investigators and policemen, was ambushed in the north-western Antioquia department. A photographer working for the prosecution and two other policemen were injured.
