Ecuador finds narco-sub shipyard

The Ecuadorean army found a shipyard where they believe that the drug trafficking submarine found earlier this year may have been manufactured.

The shipyard was found surrounded by mangroves in dense jungle north of the town of Esmeraldas, close to the Colombian border. Materials were also found, which Ecuador believes may have been used to construct to make the narco sub found in Ecuador in early July.

The head of operation command Carlos Albuja said that the army was waiting for a prosecutor to arrive to inspect the shipyard.

According to Efe, six people “with Colombian accents” were said to have fled the scene upon the Ecuadorean army’s arrival.

The Ecuadorean army has launched an land-air operation to scour in the jungle in the hope of finding those who fled.

The submarine found in July had a capacity to transport up to 14 tons of drugs and five or six crew members as far as the coast of Mexico.
