Ecopetrol to strengthen cooperation with China

Javier Gutierrez, president of Colombian state-owned
oil company Ecopetrol, on Sunday expressed the will to strengthen
cooperation with China. 

Gutierrez told Xinhua that his company is currently
working with Chinese companies like China Petroleum & Chemical
Corporation (Sinopec).

He said that since last year 10 percent of Ecopetrol’s (heavy oil) exports went to China.

Ecopetrol is interested on further cooperation with China, including investment and supplying equipments, he added.

Regarding to the global crisis and
measures to deal with it, Gutierrez said that Ecopetrol has been clear
on the need of acting with caution and to be very careful on the
investment criteria.

Gutierrez said that Ecopetrol is
willing to cooperate with China under the framework of the 50th annual
Assembly of Governors from the Inter American Development Bank (IADB)
which is being held in Medellin.

The two-day meeting, which started
on Sunday, will discuss the measures to cope with the global financial
crisis in Latin American and the Caribbean region. (Xinhua)
