Ecopetrol suspends oil transport after FARC bomb pipeline

Colombia’s state-run oil company Ecopetrol was forced to suspend oil pumping in the southwest of the country Sunday after alleged FARC rebels bombed a pipeline.

According to radio station Caracol, the Transandino oil pipeline was destroyed in the municipality of Tumaco where the FARC bombed electricity towers ten days ago. Authorities have not been able to reestablish electricity in the town.

The 190-mile pipeline connects Ecuador to Tumaco’s Pacific port. Sunday’s attack is the second within a month.

Tens of thousands of residents of Tumaco has been without electricity for ten days

The FARC and smaller rebel group ELN have stepped up attacks against the oil and mining industry this year.
