Dutchman with 40 kilos of cocaine arrested at El Dorado

Customs at Bogotá’s major airport, El Dorado, have arrested a Dutch
tourist that planned to smuggle no less than 40 kilograms of cocaine
(almost 90 pounds), it was revealed on Friday.

Authorities became suspicious when they noticed that the 32-year-old’s suitcase had little clothing in it. As it turned out, the clothing was only meant to hide the ridiculous amount of cocaine hidden inside. Even the steel handles of the suitcase were filled with the illegal drug.

The Dutchman, who claimed to have visited Colombia as a tourist, is currently being held in a Bogotá jail and will soon be handed over to justice officials.

The luggage weight limit for European flights is set to 40 kilograms per person, the exact amount the smuggler tried to take along in drugs. Not surprisingly, an El Dorado spokesman called the perpetrator ‘rather naive’.

Customs at Colombia’s main airport are no strangers to dealing with drug traffickers but rarely see exceptional amounts like this. The average amount of cocaine smugglers try to transport is reportedly around 15 kilograms.
