Almost 7,000 people have made land claims under the new Victims Law, Colombia’s agriculture minister said Monday.

The unit is aiming to make rulings in 2,100 cases within 12 months.

Claims made between last June and January 5 this year amount to around one million acres.

Meta tops the list of departments with the most land being reclaimed, followed by Casanare, Antioquia, Vichada, Cauca, Arauca and Putumayo.

Colombians who have been displaced from their lands after 1991 are able to claim back their lands according to the Victims Law that went into effect on January 1.
