Death toll central Colombia bus crash raised to 21

Authorities have raised the number of fatal victims of a bus accident in the central Colombian Cundinamarca department to 21, newspaper El Tiempo reported Sunday.

According to the police, the brakes of a bus stopped working and the vehicle crashed against the inside of a tunnel near Quebradablanca, some 40 miles south-east of the Colombian capital Bogota.

Initial reports on Saturday evening said at least 12 had died and 16 injured were taken to hospital, but El Tiempo spoke of 21 fatal victims.

The road connecting Bogota and the more southern city of Villavicencio where the accident took place remained closed.
