Copa Mustang: Late drama leads Cali past Nacional

Deportivo Cali scored a late winner at Atlético Nacional to move back
into third place in the Copa Mustang, while Nacional remain stuck in
last place.

Cali needed 28 minutes to open the score at Medellín’s Atanasio Girardot, with Sergio Herrera breaking the deadlock. Nacional then had both Jairo Palomino and José Amaya sent off and with nine men, the situation looked hopeless to the hosts.

But a foul from Cali’s Jamell Ramos earned him a red card and Nacional a penalty on 80 minutes, and Humberto Mendoza did what he needed to do to equalise. However, the winning goal came five minutes later when Pablo Batalla received the ball from Cabezas before firing past the opposing keeper for 1-2.

Cúcuta Deportivo earned a 2-0 win over Real Cartagena and are currently in fourth position. Roberto Gamarra scored the opener in the 15th minute and César Arias doubled the advantage shortly before full time.

Boyacá Chicó remain in the top eight thanks to a 0-1 win at Millonarios in the capital city. The only goal of the match came just before half time when Blanco Madera’s shot from well outside the penalty area beautifully sailed past keeper Cuadrado for 0-1. Millonarios’ Carlos Marinelli was sent off a few minutes after the break.

La Equidad dropped to sixth position as Bogotá’s best team at this moment forgot to score against Atlético Huila at El Techo stadium. Huila themselves are in penultimate position with only Nacional behind.

Deportes Quindío crashed to a 0-1 defeat by Envigado. The deciding goal came from Jorge Serna with 14 minutes left to play at Armenia’s Centenarios stadium.

Once Caldas and Deportivo Pasto held each other to a 1-1 draw in Manizales. Pasto’s Orlango Ballesteros put his side in the lead after just 3 minutes but Andrés Mosquera levelled just before the interval.

With 12 of 18 matches played, Deportes Tolima remain in the lead ahead of Junior and Cali.
