Members of Colombia’s largest leftist guerrilla group, FARC, have been killed by armed forces in the southern department of Caqueta, local media reported on Tuesday.
According to reports, a military offensive in the rural village of Peñas Blancas in the Solano municipality claimed the lives of two rebels. Military personnel reportedly engaged with 15 supposed members of the FARC and besides the two deaths, the armed forces claim to have recovered guns, ammunition and a communication radio.
FARC issued a unilateral ceasefire in November, something the government refused to do. The guerrillas acknowledged unknowingly breaking the agreement on one occasion but have vehemently denied the government’s allegations that they continue to violate the agreement.
