Colombia’s 2011 exports total $54B, beats 2014 target

Colombia’s exports for 2011 totaled $54 billion, surpassing the target the government had set for 2014, reported financial newspaper Portafolio.

According to preliminary figures from Colombia’s tax authority DIAN, the value of exports in 2011, $53.538 billion, beat the 2014 target by $2 billion.

This amount represents a 35% increase on 2010’s exports, is double the amount exported in 2006 and five times the exports of 2001.

Not included in the data is the value of exports dispatched from December 18 to 31 so the figure will go higher still.

The biggest seller in terms of exports was petroleum and its derivatives, which up to October 2011 accounted for 49% of total exports.

“This results are excellent” said Trade Minister Sergio Diaz-Granados referring to exports as well as foreign investment, and tourism. He added this record figure was the result of a diversification of products and markets.
