Colombian ‘narco-model’ faces 5 years prison

The Argentine Prosecutor General’s Office asked a court Tuesday for Angie Sanclemente, a Colombian model who allegedly turned drug lord, to be sentenced to five and a half years in prison.

A former beauty queen in Colombia, the 31-year-old woman was arrested in May 2010 in Buenos Aires for allegedly leading a drug trafficking ring between Argentina and Western Europe.

She came under suspicion in late 2009 when a young woman was arrested in Ezeiza, Argentina, trying to smuggle 55 kilos of cocaine on a flight bound to Mexico.

Apprehended, the woman confessed her involvement with Sanclemente, who allegedly was running her drug trafficking operation using what she called “beautiful, unsuspicious” models to transport the drugs to Europe. Interpol then issued an international warrant for Sanclemente’s arrest.

According to the prosecution, the former model was also acting as a contact between drug lords in Argentina and Mexico.

Since her arrest, the glamorous drug dealer has denied the charges, blaming relatives of her boyfriend, Argentine model Nicolas Gualco, of being the drug traffickers.
