Colombian comedian in hot water for fat jokes

Colombian comedian and model Alejandra Azcarate is taking a lot of criticism after she made fun of overweight women in her weekly magazine column.

Azcarate published an article entitled “7 advantages of being fat” earlier this month for Alo magazine, where she argued that overweight women have an easier life because men treat them like princesses. Men are afraid that larger women will sit on them if they don’t do what they want, she argued.

In another stroke of genius, Azcarate posited that voluptuous women are less inhibited in bed, enjoying sex as if it was their last romp in the sack, “because they know that this could actually be true.” They are also more willing to please in bed so their partners forget they are doing it with a “soft couch,” she added.

At the end of the article, Azcarate changed gears, claiming it’s actually better to be thin because being fat is only cute when you’re a baby. “So don’t fool yourself. Stop thinking that you have big bones(…)You’re fat. Accept it!,” the model wrote.

Although the article was meant to be a joke, women all over Colombia are up in arms. Members of social networks attacked Azcarate, saying her article was offensive and irresponsible, with some suggesting her comments encouraged eating disorders.

Azcarate flew to France shortly after the controversy but that didn’t stop her from criticizing her native country from afar. “In Colombia there are thieves, election fraud, drug trafficking and you are worried that I said its better to be thin than fat. What a caricature of a country,” the comedian told Yahoo Colombia.

It’s better to be in Paris, she concluded, a city that is famous for its thin people.
