Colombian January tax collection above target: Minister

The Colombian government’s tax collection in January improved and was above target, Finance Minister Oscar Ivan Zuluaga said Wednesday.

“This is a sign of recovery,” he told reporters after attending a Congressional committee meeting.

The Colombian government expects to collect COP69.7 trillion ($35.33 billion) in taxes in 2010, 1.2% higher than in 2009.

The Colombian government expects to report a consolidated budget deficit equivalent to 3.7% of gross domestic product in 2010, up from 2.7% in 2009.
