Colombia to send 60 troops to Afghanistan

A military convoy specializing in landmine disarmament and elite operations will soon join Spanish forces in Afghanistan, Colombian general Gustavo Matamoros said Wednesday.

60 Colombian troops will form part of a NATO-led force in Qala i Naw, a district in western Afghanistan. Spain maintains a military base there near the city of Herat.

Colombia also hopes to soon send a support team specializing in anti-drug trafficking to Afghanistan, to serve as special advisors to Afghan forces.
