Colombia stocks rise led by ETB; peso strengthens

Colombian stocks inched higher Tuesday after three sessions of declines, fueled by gains in shares of state-run telecom Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Bogota SA.

The IGBC index, considered the market’s benchmark, rose 0.17% to close at 14272.90 points.

Shares of ETB, which serves telephone needs for the capital city Bogota, rose 2.55% to COP725. Reports indicate the city is considering a plan to sell the shares it owns in ETB.

The peso, meanwhile, strengthened against the dollar, closing at COP1,771.50 to the dollar from COP1,780.33 a day earlier.

The yield on the peso-denominated local bond known as TES due in 2020 stood at 7.775% at the close after opening at 7.816%.
