Colombia rainy season death toll at 70

Floods and landslides as a result of rainy season has left 70 people dead and 145 injured in Colombia so far this year, the country’s interior minister said Saturday. More than 660 thousand Colombians suffered damage to their homes or lands.

According to the Minister German Vargas Lleras one third of all Colombian municipalities has been affected by the weather since the rainy season’s beginning in March.

Most affected is the country’s Caribbean coast where for example in the coastal city of Santa Marta some 2,500 houses flooded this week.

Bogota warns authorities in the north that more heavy rains are expected during the weekend.
