Colombia Nov urban unemployment rises to 12.1%

Unemployment in Colombia’s 13 biggest cities rose to 12.1 percent in November from 10.4 percent in the same month in 2008, the government’s statistics department said on Wednesday.

Nationwide unemployment in the Andean country was 11.1 percent in November versus 10.8 percent in the same month last year, according to the DANE statistics department.

The economy was pushed into recession this year as export revenues, investment and tax receipts were pressured by fallout from the worldwide financial crisis.

Gross domestic product is expected to be flat to slightly positive for full-year 2009. The government projects 2.5 percent economic growth in 2010. (Reuters)
