Colombian and the Dominican Republic began joint exercises Sunday to combat drug trafficking in the Caribbean, reports Efe.
Using Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport in Barranquilla, Colombia, and San Isidro Airport in the Dominican Republic, the exercises will improve the ability to detect airplanes suspected of carrying drugs and weapons, share information between control centers in the two countries, and will include simulated air interceptions.
The joint exercises, called Caribe I, will run until Thursday and is aimed at closing “the Caribbean airspace usage to drug flights,” the Colombian Air Force told Efe.
