Popular Colombian band Bomba Estereo has been asked to cancel their free concert in Jaffa as part of a boycott of Israel.
The appeal has been made by the Colombian section of the “boycott Israel” campaign has appealed to the band to turn down the invitation to play in Jaffa to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people.
An online petition reads that “we hope that Bomba Estereo understands that playing in Israel today is akin to playing in apartheid South Africa, and that they make the same decision.”
If the band does decide to boycott Israel, it will contradict the message of fraternity that President Juan Manuel Santos has extended towards the Middle Eastern state. Santos had included the country as part of a tour to encourage foreign investment in Colombia.

M3 Music Media Management, the band’s agent, told Colombia Reports that they “don’t know anything” as “there is no official statement” regarding the band’s response to the petition.
Bomba Estereo, labeled by press as one of Colombia’s most popular groups, is currently scheduled to play at the Jaffa Nights Festival at the invitation of the Colombian embassy in Israel.
