Bolivarian activist arrested in Cali

Former FARC guerrilla and current activist of Colombia’s Bolivarian movement, Diego Fernando Serna, was arrested in Cali Tuesday.

“The Metropolitan Police arrested Serna without any reason, only one day after he was announced as new peace agent of the Bolivarian Socialist Movement Colombia (MSB)”, spokesman of MSB, David Broker, told Efe.

The former FARC guerrilla was delivered to the authorities in September 2001 and charged for a planned attack on the then presidential candidate Alvaro Uribe.

“Serna was appointed to peace agent because of his experience and contacts to achieve reconciliation”, Broker added, who plans to run for the presidential election in 2010.

MSB is a socialist movement leaning towards the politics of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.
