Bogota mayor provides police with 483 motorcycles

Mayor Clara Lopez provided Bogota’s police with 483 new motorcycles in order to strengthen security around the capital city, reported El Espectador Friday.

Lopez congratulated Bogota’s police for improved safety and vigilance. According to the mayor, more than 222 criminal gangs have been dismantled so far this year.

“Results such as the capture of those responsible for [the murder of] the two girls in the town of Kennedy or the dismantling of more than 222 criminal gangs so far this year in Bogota are evidence of this effectiveness,” said the mayor during an address to the Bogota’s police.

Funding for the motorcycles came from the Vigilance and Security Fund. The total cost of the purchase was $4.23 million dollars.

The commander of the Bogota Metropolitan Police, Francisco Patino Fonseca, thanked the mayor for her support.

“This important support will help increase motorcycle safety levels in each of the quadrants of the city. Likewise, it will become a vital tool to improve responsiveness to the needs of citizens. “

According to the report, Bogota’s police force has some 2,500 vehicles and motorcycles registered.
