Bogota deploys 2,000 extra cops during holiday season

Colombian capital Bogota will deploy 2,000 extra policemen to enforce security during December’s tourism peak.

Mayor Samuel Moreno announced the increase in policemen at the end of a special security meeting on the month wherein the city expects thousands of extra visitors.

The policemen will mainly be seen in places where there will be increased tourist activity like shopping malls, parks and nightlife areas.

Bogota is not just trying to secure a pleasant stay for those that come to visit. The city is also preparing for the exodus of some 1.370,000 Bogotanos who will spend the holidays elsewhere.

Authorities warn that thieves and pickpockets will be having their high season too and recommend not to walk around with a lot of cash and leave expensive items like ipods safe at home or in the hotel.
