Bogota comes alive for traditional dance festival

Bogota comes alive and moves to the music for Colombia’s fourth annual “We are Movement” traditional dance festival, lasting until December 3.

The 17-day-long festival pays homage to Colombia’s diverse dance styles, including the world famous salsa, cumbia, local folkloric dance, and all forms of contemporary dance including urban dance, break-dancing, pole-dancing, and more.

Twenty-five different venues across the city will be holding more than 78 performances over the span of the event, that feature an amazing 1,600 dancers and artists. Of the eclectic mix, 11 of the dance companies come from abroad; from Belgium, France, Lithuania, Denmark, Mexico, and Spain.

Theaters, public parks and plazas, bars, and unconventional stages will all be alive with the sound of music and the wild stomping of feet in motion in honor of the national festival.

There will also be an academic component of the event, with master classes in dance, choreography seminars, dance videos, scene production, and discussions.
