Bogota builds largest event center in South America

Bogota inaugurated the Conferias pavilion, the largest event center on the continent, announced RCN Radio Tuesday.

The multi-functional Conferias (the International Center of Business and Expositions) will hold up to 21,000 people at some of Latin America’s most important events.

The fairgrounds comprise of 18 exposition halls, including the 6,000-seat Great Hall, the Bogota Chamber of Commerce, a VIP lounge and two international restaurants.

The 111,000 square-foot complex was designed without columns, the project’s director Andres Lopez explained. The aim was create mobility and social inclusion by minimizing outside impacts.

Conferias will also cater to Bogota’s tourists. An ultra-modern international convention center with 757 seats is expected to open in 2014.
