Army colonels to be arrested for mass killings

The courts on Monday issued arrest warrants for two Colombian colonels for their alleged responsibility in a series of murders and massacres between that occurred between 1986 and 1994.

A Bogota court issued the arrest warrant for Colonel Wilfredo Ruiz Silva, who is believed to have been involved in the murders of more than 200 people.

In another area of Bogota, the investigative unit of the Prosecutor General’s Office issued an arrest warrant for retired Colonel Hernan Contreras Peña, who commanded the Palace battalion of the army in the 1990s.

A prosecutor requested that both army officials be refused bail for their alleged perpetration of the crimes of aggravated homicide, forced aggravated disappearance and intent to commit a crime.
