7 Americans at Colombian drug lord’s party: Report

Seven men found at a party where Colombian police arrested neo-paramilitary drug lord “Fritanga” identified themselves as American citizens. Three of them said to be cops, weekly Semana reported Sunday.

Men identifying themselves as Americans

  • Jose Enrique Vives Torres (Puerto Rico)
  • John Rodriguez (New York)
  • Luis Junior Velazquez Acosta (Puerto Rico)
  • Frabian Eli Carrion Barreto (Puerto Rico)
  • Jose Ivan Diaz (Puerto Rico)
  • Edwin Javier Marquez Mercado (Pennsylvania)
  • “Samuel” (Puerto Rico)

The magazine published photos of the American citizens’ passports on its website and a video in which one of the alleged Americans says in Spanish, “I am a United States police officer.”

According to Semana, five of the men were from Puerto Rico, one was from New York and one from Pennsylvania.

The magazine said it was unclear why the men who identified themselves as Americans were at the “Urabeños” wedding party on an island off Cartagena’s coast that was spoiled by Colombian law officials arresting the drug lord who according to official records died on December 2, 2010.

Apart from the reported Americans, the lavish party was also attended by Colombian and Puerto-Rican celebrities.
