América and Medellín aim to extend lead in semi final stage

After an entire week without football, the Colombian Copa Mustang II
gets back underway with match day four of the semi final stage.

The action begins on Saturday with the match between América de Cali and Junior Barranquilla. Last week, these two sides held each other to a 1-1 draw but more importantly, Junior scored from a penalty awarded after an already legendary dive. América will surely want revenge for that by taking three points and extending their group B lead.

Later at night, René Higuita’s Deportivo Pereira host Deportivo Cali. Last week, Cali easily won 3-0 and another result like that will be more than welcome. For Pereira, the situation is simple: A win will be required to keep some realistic hope in this group phase.

Group A’s four teams then face off on Sunday with Independiente Medellín attempting to extend their lead when they host La Equidad. Last week, the Bogotan side headed for a win but two late Medellín goals turned things around. La Equidad really don’t have much of a chance to reach the final anymore but honor is worth fighting for as well.

If anyone wants La Equidad to beat DIM, it would be Deportes Tolima who trail the group leaders by three points and host Atlético Nacional in Sunday’s second match. The two sides held each other to a 1-1 draw last week, a result that helped neither.
