Bogota bus crash death toll reaches 24

Nine more people have died as a result of a road accident that occurred last weekend just outside the Colombian capital Bogota, raising the death toll to 24 people, El Espectador reported Tuesday.

The accident occurred last Sunday, when the brakes of a bus malfunctioned, causing it to collide with oncoming traffic, including another bus and a number of private cars.

Sixteen people were killed on impact, whilst nine more people, who had been receiving treatment in hospital but were in an extremely poor condition, died on Monday as a result of their injuries.

Eleven other victims are currently being treated in hospital, two of whom are in a critical condition.
