Colombian Councilman Roberto Saenz, brother of deceased FARC leader “Alfonso Cano,” claimed Friday that 8,000 votes electing him to the Bogota council have disappeared without explanation.
“The truth is that I don’t know what happened to my votes: I had 14,718, and in an official bulletin of the Registry it fell down to 7,018. That is, I lost 8,000 votes in a blink of an eye,” Saenz complained.
The councilman said he feared this could be in relation to the recent killing of his brother by the Colombian Army.
Saenz stated he hadn’t had any contacts with his brother in 20 years, even though he admitted that as a family member, the news of his death was “painful.”
“Eight thousand votes cannot disappear overnight without anyone to answer for it. No one in the Registry was able to give an explanation,” Saenz added.
Last week, in a similar incident, Councilman Carlos Orlando Ferreira complained of the disappearance of 2,700 of his votes without any explanation.
