30 ‘gang members’ arrested in north Medellin

Authorities have arrested 30 suspected members of criminal gangs operating in the municipality of Bello, north of Medellin, the Prosecutor General’s Office anounced Tuesday.

In a statement published on its website, the Prosecutor General’s Office said 15 suspected members of the Pachely gang were arrested on conspiracy charges. Within the group are four National Police officers and an employee of the Land Registry Office of Bello.

Two police officers were also accused of aggravated homicide, kidnapping and aggravated theft for the March 29 murder on a bus driver and the theft of his bus.

Also detained without bail were 15 members of the El Hoyo gang which operates in a poor neighborhood northeast of Medellin. According to investigators, this gang is responsible for at least 14 cases of forces displacement in the area. The 15 gang members are suspected of conspiracy for the purposes of homicide, forced displacement and narco-trafficking.
