3 military die in combat with FARC

Three of Colombia’s military men die in combat with the FARC near the Venezuela border, reported local media on Monday.

Three military members lost their life Monday afternoon and two resulted as injured after clashes with FARC guerrillas that developed in the rural zone of Arauquita, in the northern Arauca department.

The public forces were part of the “Fuerza de Tarea Quiron” (Chiron Task Force), which is one of seven groups that were recently created by the military forces to face the country’s largest guerrilla group FARC in different regions of Colombia.

The FARC’s 10th and 45th Fronts allegedly operate in the zone where combats developed, and there is also a presence of the ELN, Colombia’s second largest guerrilla group.

Since the announcement of the peace dialogues in August which are currently underway in the Norwegian capital of Oslo between President Juan Manuel Santos’ administration and the FARC, eight soldiers have died in clashes with guerrilla members.
