Cali police arrest over 200 crime suspects in 3-day operation

National Police commander General Oscar Naranjo announced that in the last 72 hours, 238 criminals have been captured by police in Cali, the capital of the Valle del Cauca department.

The police commander attributed the captures to the influx of 1,331 new police officers to the city and pointed out that the operations have also identified 140 critical points of insecurity in Cali reported the local newspaper El Pais.

“Instructed by the President of the Republic, we are implementing in Cali the National Plan of Security and Citizen Coexistence that will develop later, all across the country. It is a piloted exercise that we are doing in Cali that will cover integral security, not only with plans of attack, but also with integration and coexistence with the community,” said Naranjo who moved his command to the city Wednesday.

Among the captured are reported to be 40 wanted criminals and Caracol Radio also reported that Cali police seized 70 illegal firearms during the operations.

Over the past three days 250 raids have been carried out in Cali and police have installed 245 checkpoints around the city.
