19th International Festival of Poetry in Medellin

Medellin will celebrate its 19th version of the International Poetry
Festival from July 4 until July 11, during which it will welcome 65 poets from 43 countries.

Poets from all over the world, like Syria, Germany, Ecuador and United
States among others, will share their thoughts about freedom with the
people of Medellin.

This year’s version of the Festival brings “spiritual and emotional liberation for Colombian citizens who suffered decades of war and violence that have left hundreds of thousands of dead, wounded, disabled, kidnapped and disappeared people”, the organizers say.

The poetry week will be opened on Saturday, 4th July, at 5 p.m. at the open-air theater Carlos Vieco.

There will be poetry recitals everyday at every hour starting at 10 a.m. See here for the complete program in Spanish.

The International Poetry Festival was founded in 1991 and awarded the Alternative Nobel Prize by the Swedish Parliament in 2006. This year, it was declared a Cultural Heritage of the Nation.
