164 guerrillas demobilized in January: Govt

Some 164 members of leftist guerrilla groups demobilized in January, the government announced Tuesday.

According to a report by the Program for Humanitarian Attention for the Demobilized, 145 of the demobilized belonged to the FARC, 18 to the ELN and one to a third guerrilla group.

Among the demobilized are 27 minors and 41 women.

In 2010, a total of 2,381 members of guerrilla groups voluntarily deserted.

The FARC and ELN are estimated to have between 7,000 and 10,000 members in total, according to the government.
