Alleged psychologist butcher to be freed

Friends and family of dismembered psychologist Maryori Kisner, killed in Medellin last year, called on authorities to review the release order for accused killer Robert Alexander Lopez.

The release order was issued by a judge arguing expiration of terms, agreeing with a request made by the defense. The 150,000 peso bond ($USD75) was cancelled.

In an interview with Colombia’s W Radio, the deceased’s sister Viviana Kisner claimed that the judge had committed serious irregularities.

“A ruling by the court that should have taken three days was delayed by 57 days, and then the judge ruled that the extra time was counted as calendar days rather than working days, as is usual,” she said.

The murder of Mayori Kisner was all the more shocking when considering that she worked for the Program of Peace and Reconciliation for the Medellin Government Secretariat, providing social services around the city.

“If you pay a ten million peso reward for capture and then set criminals free for 150 thousand pesos, then here we are,” said Kisner.

TV station TeleMedellin reported that there is a chance that the Kisner’s wish for justice be answered: The case remains open, which means that at any time Lopez could be re-arrested.
