Alleged assassin of Santo Domingo mayor arrested

Medellin police on Wednesday arrested the alleged murderer of the mayor of Santo Domingo. The identity of the suspect has not been revealed.

Sanchez was shot January 6, 2010 while taking money out of an ATM in a neighborhood in the west of Medellin. Reports from Terra Colombia state that two armed men attempting to rob the mayor, engaged in a small fire-fight with his bodyguards. The mayor was fatally wounded and his bodyguard was injured but survived. According to Terra, one of the attackers was hurt during the attack and sought medical attention at a hospital in the town of Bello, north of Medellin.

Police are still searching for an accomplice who fled on a motorcycle. Authorities are offering a $27 thousand reward for any information leading to their whereabouts.
