Nine people have been killed in two massacres that took place Wednesday in the northwest and southwest of Colombia.

Five were killed in the town of La Union, a town in the southwestern Valle del Cauca department.

Another four were killed in a massacre in San Roque, Antioquia.

The La Union massacre, in which three men and one women were killed, took place in a bar where heavily armed men opened fire at guests.

Police said that some of the victims were family members of a recently released convicted drug trafficker.

In San Roque, authorities also blamed tensions between drug traffickers for the killing.
