A group of social network Facebook collected 80,000 signatures in total to vote Bogota mayor Samuel Moreno out of office.
Last Thursday, more than 100 members of the group ‘Unite for the mandate revocation of Samuel Moreno’ took to the street for their first official action against the capital’s mayor, reported El Espectador on Monday. At the end of the day they collected more than 10,000 signatures, the group claims.
The
story began six months ago when a group of 10 people, including
professionals, students, pensioners and common people, decided to
create a group on Facebook, where people could express their
disagreement with the administration of the current Mayor. Now the group, who claims not to belong to a political party, counts almost 82,000 members.
The movement against Samuel Moreno also has a website, which gives detailed instructions on how to join
the group and how and where interested people can download the form for
collecting signatures.
To vote the mayor out of office it requires at least 40 per cent of the votes with which he
was elected, that means more or less around 366,000 signatures since
Moreno received 915,000 votes.
