7 suspected paramilitaries killed in northwest Colombia

Seven suspected paramilitaries were killed in clashes with the FARC Tuesday near an indigenous community in northwest Colombia, El Pais reported Thursday.

The seven bodies were discovered Wednesday near the settlement of Guapal, six hours from the town of Chigorodo, Antioquia Department.

“All men were wearing uniforms […] and had rubber boots,” said the local government secretary Tulia Irene Garcia.

The seven dead were believed to have been members of the Gaitanistas, a drug-trafficking paramilitary group which grew out of the now demobilized AUC.
