57 policemen murdered in Colombia in 2014: Chief

A total of 57 Colombia policemen have been murdered in 2014, according to the Director of the National Police on Tuesday.

Police Director Rodolfo Palomino’s open letter came out the morning after a 29-year-old policeman was killed in Bogota.

According to news agency EFE, Rodolfo Palomino wrote, among other things, that the killed cop “is now the 57th police officer who has made ​​the ultimate sacrifice that a man can make, having given their lives to safeguard the security and tranquility of Colombians.”

“This morning as the country was waking up, we had to deliver the tragic news of the murder of our colleague, policeman Andrés Felipe Valbuena, whose only mistake was trusting two people who approached him while on duty,” Palomino wrote in the letter according to news agency EFE.

General Palomino also informed the public that the police has succeeded in capturing 178,756 criminals, and seizing 15,887 weapons this year to date.

Bogota Police Commander Humberto Guatibonza announced on Twitter that he is offering a $10 million reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspected assassin.
