5 policemen die in northern Colombia plane crash

Five policemen were killed Thursday when their plane crashed after taking off from a northern Colombian town’s airport.

The wreck occurred as the men attempted to take off in a small Cessna 206. The pilot apparently lost control of the plane after take-off and the plane crashed into a mountain. The men were attempting to leave Ituango, a city in northern Colombia in the Antioquia department.

Among those killed were two officers, a sergeant, and two troopers. One man survived the crash and has been rushed to a hospital with burns over 80% of his body.

Authorities were not immediately able to establish the cause of the crash.
