The deaths are contributed to drug gangs who are trying to control the routes of drug trafficking in the department of Córdoba. A special security council, made up of local and national police and military, think the murdered paramilitaries were part of these gangs. The council says that paramilitaries have little other option than joining the drug gangs, because there are hardly any job opportunities for them.In Medellín, Colombia’s second largest city, 20 demobilized paramilitaries have been murdered the past three months, Caracol Radio reports.
