Four major Colombian rivers are at high risk of flooding due to the relentless rainy season and have been placed in red alert by Colombia’s National Disaster Risk Management Unit Thursday.
The Magdalena, Bogota, Cauca, and Atrato Rivers have all been deemed areas of great risk.
Colombia’s rainy season has so far affected 343 municipalities and 325,230 people, including 68,116 families. An additional 98 people have been killed with 78 wounded and seven missing.
Also damaged were 56,231 homes while 435 were completely destroyed.
As of yet, $16.2 million has been spent in humanitarian efforts such as mobile health units, machinery and fuel, rent subsidies, and construction work. The majority of funds, however, have gone to emergency relief, at $11.5 million.
Since September 1, there have been 131 landslides, 339 floods, six lightning storms, and 84 thunderstorms.
