4 Colombia soldiers killed in shooting inside Bogota army barracks

Four members of the Colombia’s National Army were found dead in an army compound in Bogota on Monday morning after a soldier shot and killed three comrades before turning the gun on himself.

The shooting occurred in a Military Police battalion, located in the Puente Aranda district in the Colombian capital.

“The Command of the Tenth Army Brigade has ordered investigations to establish the circumstances and how and why these events unfolded,” the army explained in a press release on its website.

According to initial inquiries carried out by army investigators, the attacker used his weapon in anger following an argument between himself and his victims.

The army will be working with the Prosecutor General’s Technical Investigation Unit and will provide all necessary information for the investigation, according to the press release.

The National Army has expressed its solidarity with the families the victims and has condemned the behavior of the attacker saying that it “in no way reflects the behavior of the men of our institution.”
