3 killed in Medellin gang shootout

A shootout between two criminal gangs left three people dead Sunday in an area known as Ciudadela de Occidente in the northwest Colombian city of Medellin, according to a report by Caracol radio.

According to Metropolitan Police, the shooting took place over a dispute relating to the control of illegal activities, such as micro-trafficking, in the area.

The shooting was the third in recent weeks in the zone and has forced police to tighten security measures in the area.

Ciudadela de Occidente is a neighborhood in the west of Medellin made up primarily of government housing.
