23 illegal immigrants arrested in western Colombia

23 illegal immigrants on Sunday were apprehended by Colombia’s Army and Navy, in the western coastal department of Choco.

According to the newspaper El Tiempo, Colombian citizens were also accompanying the Bangladeshi immigrants but fled the scene when the armed forces arrived.  The persons arrested were handed over to Colombia Migration.

Colombia Migration is an organization that provides humanitarian assistance to victims of migrant trafficking.

In 2012, 54 illegal immigrants were arrested on the Colombian coast.  Homelands of the migrants included Cuba, India, Pakistan, Ecuador and Bangladesh.
