2011 Feria de Cali kicks off

Cali’s most important festival of the year, the world-famous Feria de Cali, kicked off Monday with its traditional “cabalgata,” a tour around the city on the back of a horse.

The feria, widely considered one of Colombia’s most important festivals, is held annually on the days between Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

This year’s festival will have to do without its Super Concert, usually attended by the world’s most afmous salse performers. The concert was canceled over disagreements between the mayor and the organizers of the festival regarding the location.
