2 of 3 candidates on Bogota mayor replacement shortlist ‘possibly unfit’

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said Friday that two of the three candidates on the socialist party Polo Democratico’s shortlist to replace suspended Bogota mayor Samuel Moreno could be rejected for judicial reasons.

According to a press release on the presidential website, the two candidates are not “possibly unfit” to replace Moreno for judicial reasons.

Santos did not say which candidates will have to be removed from the shortlist.

Polo Democratico proposed Tarsicio Mora, president of the workers union CUT, Mariella Barragan, the secretary of district economic development, and Jaime Moreno, ex-magistrate of the State Council and current member of the party’s ethics committee as possible replacements of Moreno, who was suspended amid investigations for his role in a major corruption scandal.
