Guerrilla insurgents killed two members of the security forces and injure another two in separate attacks Sunday in the northeast department of Arauca, Colombian media reported.
According to reports, one police officer was killed and two wounded by unidentified rebel soldiers in Tame, a municipality in the southwest of the department.
Members of the second largest guerrilla group ELN fired six mortars on a military garrison in the western municipality Fortul, killing one soldier. The soldier was rushed to a hospital in a neighboring municipality, but died from his injuries.
Police officers were also attacked in Araquita, a municipality that shares a border with Venezuela. The officers responded to a report of a stolen car by guerrilla members, which turned out to be a baited attack on the members of the security force. However, no one was injured in the battle.
The attacks capped off a particularly bloody weekend in which alleged FARC forces also killed four people and injured another 21 on Saturday and Sunday.
